A rescue mission that was launched after a digger became stuck on a beach while trying to save a stranded truck from the incoming tide, has failed.

The rescue of the truck has been successful as it has since been moved but the digger got stranded.

It remained in place today after recovery attempts were abandoned and eventually got swamped by the tide.
