Michael Sheen and girlfriend Anna Lundberg discuss working together

Michael Sheen and his girlfriend Anna Lundberg have discussed working together for the first time in the second series of BBC’s comedy series Staged.

The screen star, 51, and the Swedish actress, 26, who have been in a romance since May 2019 and welcomed Lyra four months later, touched on juggling parenting with their new stint, set at their home in South Wales during the coronavirus lockdown.

In a new interview, the couple admitted ‘alcohol was involved’ in the scenes they filmed with David Tennant and his wife Georgia as the couples bonded and filmed the majority of their show at night when their babies were asleep.

In the programme, which used video-conferencing technology, actors Michael and David play fictionalised versions of themselves as they attempt to rehearse a Luigi Pirandello’s Six Characters in Search of an Author virtually amid the pandemic.

The Deal star admitted he struggled to shoot content with his partner as they rotated their mother and father duties.

The thespian said in this week’s edition of Radio Times: ‘They tend to happen in the night because of the babies being asleep and there tends to be alcohol involved as well. So they’re a bit… looser.’

‘I don’t think that I would have coped with you, if you were the version that you are in the show’, mother-of-one Anna joked.

While they’ve led busy lives during the global crisis, the duo credited the nationwide shutdowns as blessings.

The Welshman said: ‘The plan when Lyra was born was just to spend time together as a family at home. We’ve got a garden and the weather was good in the spring and summer in Wales, so for us it has all been rather lovely.’

Anna – who was informed about her role in Staged just hours before filming the pilot episode – added: ‘And the luxury of Michael just being at home has really been amazing and Lyra has certainly loved it.

‘Otherwise Michael’s always sort of popping in and out and now you’ve really been able to fully be here. We’ve been able to connect together as a family, and that routine has kept us sane.’

Michael, who also shares Lily, 21, with his ex Kate Beckinsale, later touched on growing closer to his former Good Omens co-star David, 49, as they managed to relate about maintaining their careers while prioritising their families.

The stage star said: ‘I mean, David and Georgia are old hands, obviously – they’ve got about 20 of them. But the fact that we did have babies so close to each other, that has been a big bonding thing as well.

‘The experience of changing a baby’s nappy at three in the morning never really leaves you.’

Anna and Georgia, 36, meanwhile, discovered that they ‘do have quite a lot in common’ after giving birth to their daughters Lyra and Birdie in September and October 2019 respectively.
