Grant Hackett encourages 11-month-old son Edward Anthony to follow in his footsteps as they ‘do laps at grandma’s’

He welcomed his first child, son Edward Anthony, with vegan chef Sharlene Fletcher in January 2020.

And 12 months on from his wife giving birth, Grant Hackett is already encouraging the youngster to follow in his footsteps as a professional swimmer.

The 40-year-old appeared to be in his element on Tuesday, as he stood waist deep in a pool with his son to do ‘laps’.

‘Doing laps at grandma’s,’ the former Olympian cheekily captioned the post.

In the first picture, his bulging biceps were on show as he stood holding his son in place in the water, who appeared to be comfortably sitting in a pool float.

Grant’s beard was disheveled in appearance and his hair was slicked back, having been in the water with his little boy.

In the second picture, the dynamic duo beat the heat by playing in the water along the pool’s edge underneath the shade.

Grant is smiling ear-to-ear as he helps Edward balance on his feet, while he held onto the side of the pool and a snorkeling mask.

Grant’s mother Margaret appeared to be enjoying the father-son time as she sat in the shade nearby.

Their sweet day out ‘at grandma’s’ follows Grant marrying Sharlene in a secret, intimate ceremony in Melbourne in December.

In a gushing tribute to his bride, Grant revealed he could no longer wait to be married – even though the pandemic ensured the wedding was smaller than he and Sharlene, 35, had hoped.

‘I feel so blessed to call you my beautiful wife @sharhackett. With a year that’s been filled with so much uncertainty it’s been such a perfect way to finish off 2020,’ he captioned his post.

‘With COVID-19 continuing to delay our nuptials and the ability to properly plan our wedding, with all of our friends and family in the one location both locally and from overseas, Sharlene and I just wanted to say ‘I do’!’
