Heart-stopping moment man narrowly avoids being hit by oncoming train in Mumbai as he is dragged to safety by police officer on station platform

This is the heart-stopping moment a man narrowly avoids being hit by a train after a police officer dragged him to safety.

CCTV footage shows Gopal Solanki as he crosses the tracks at the Dahisar railway station in Mumbai, Western India, on 1st January.

The 60-year-old climbs a fence separating the two tracks before dashing across to the platform while a train approaches.

The man’s shoe becomes stuck in the track and he is forced to dart back towards the fence in the middle.

Footage, captured at around 11.36am, shows Mr Solanki managing to secure his shoes and gingerly walks across the live tracks towards safety. 

A local police officer, S.B. Nikam, runs towards the man, who is still in the middle of the railway as the train approaches.   

The officer manages to pull the man to safety with just seconds to spare as the train pulls into the platform.

The enraged policeman hits the man, who is lying on the platform, for his stupidity in attempting to cross the railway. 

The pair fall to the ground as onlookers on the platform rush to help and people watch the scene from the doors of the train.
