Love Island’s Tayla Damir accuses Instagram page of ‘bullying’ stars by correcting their SPELLING

Love Island Australia’s Tayla Damir has lashed out at popular Australian Instagram page Celeb Spellcheck for poking fun at influencers by correcting their poor spelling.  

The reality star, 23, was left mortified on Saturday after Celeb Spellcheck reposted one of her recent Instagram Story posts, which contained a misspelled version of the word ‘tournament’. 

The image showed Tayla her AFL star boyfriend Nathan Broad posing in matching pyjamas on New Year’s Day, alongside the caption: ‘Beer pong tornament [sic]’.

Celeb Spellcheck reposted the image on Saturday, adding the snarky caption: ‘Nothing’s fine I’m torn’ – lyrics from the popular song Torn by Natalie Imbruglia.

Tayla promptly retaliated, penning an impassioned rant on Instagram Stories accusing the page of ‘opening up the door for bullies’. 

‘A couple of months ago I came across an account called celebspellcheck’, she began her post.

‘At first, I thought this account was a bit of a laugh and didn’t see the harm in it (probably because I had never been posted on it, which is naive on my behalf),’ Tayla continued. 

‘I didn’t follow the account or think about it again until yesterday. I was posted on this account which made me dive deeper into their content. I am all for a bit of a laugh and fun, but this account opens the door for straight up bullying,’ she continued.  

Tayla went on to remind her fans to be ‘kind and understanding of one another’, before warning of the mental health epidemic plaguing our generation. 

The former Miss Universe WA finalist also defended her spelling mistake, explaining that she is ‘slightly dyslexic’.  

‘For me, maybe I’m sensitive about this because I’m slightly dyslexic and struggled so much throughout school,’ Tayla continued, before bragging that she’d ‘pushed through’ and ‘got an amazing degree’ despite her learning disorder. 

Tayla has a degree in Communication majoring in Journalism and Broadcasting from Western Australia’s Edith Cowan University. 

Tayla urged her followers to ‘do better’ by thinking twice about following pages like Celeb Spellcheck.  

‘I urge you to do better and be better if you are someone who has followed this page, commented on this page or any pages similar to this,’ she declared.  

Accounts like Celeb Spellcheck are constantly on the hunt for such slip-ups by well-known personalities. 

In August, the account famously reshared an Instagram Story by The Block’s 2017 winner Elyse Knowles, after she was caught misspelling the word ‘voilà’ as ‘wallah’. 

The post later went viral in early December when American social media sensation Josh Ostrovsky, a.k.a. The Fat Jewish, shared it with his 10.6 million followers. 

Mr Ostrovsky shared a screenshot of Elyse’s typo, and wrote: ‘Spending an unhealthy amount of time thinking about how this influencer spelled ‘Voilà’.’ 

Since then, scores of Instagram users have been trolling Elyse by writing ‘wallah’ on her recent Instagram posts.
