As the festive period draws to a close, hundreds of dumped Christmas trees  have started piling up at recycling sites as families begin taking them down.

Despite New Year’s Eve being only yesterday, the seasonal buzz appears to have died down with many people deciding to throw away their tree early in 2021.

Christmas trees could be seen lining the pavements and roads in London, and a  six foot high pile mounted at a recycling point in Erewash, Derbyshire.

People eager to forget 2020 removed old Christmas trees from their cars and carried bags of branches to a designated area at the recycling centre.

Some 10million trees are sold in Britain every year. However more places across the country are offering to recycle old and forgotten trees in an attempt to be more environmentally friendly.
