NSYNC’s Lance Bass weighs in on the ‘Free Britney Spears movement’

Lance Bass weighs in on the ‘Free Britney’ movement and says if Spears ‘wants out of the conservatorship then we should listen to her’

He rose to fame in the late 1990s as one-fifth of the legendary boy band NSYNC.

And in an interview with Australia’s Today Extra, Lance Bass weighed in on the ‘Free Britney’ movement – a fan campaign fighting for the Toxic hitmaker’s independence from a legal conservatorship.

‘I definitely feel for her,’ the 41-year-old said on Tuesday. ‘We should definitely listen to her, and if she wants out of this conservatorship with her dad controlling it, then we should listen to her.’

After a very public breakdown in 2008, Britney’s father Jamie Spears was appointed the conservator of her estate and finances, but last year he stepped down and placed her care manager Jodi Montgomery as the temporary conservator.

Lance, who is married to actor Michael Turchin, said he doesn’t know ‘the specifics of her situation and if she should be out of a conservatorship.’

‘But I do trust her sister, Jamie Lynne,’ he added of Britney’s 29-year-old sister, ‘and as long as Jamie Lynn is cool with whatever she’s doing, I mean, I have to be.’

Lance, who shot to fame around the same time as Britney, also noted that her experience with stardom was vastly different to his.

‘Being a female is definitely different. Being at such a young age. Also I had my best friends in my group (NSYNC), so it was easier to deal with. She was just a solo act.

‘She had everything riding on her shoulders, the whole world was either against her or for her and that’s a lot to take in,’ he added.

Britney’s father Jaime has previously dismissed the ‘Free Britney Spears’ movement as a ‘joke’, telling PageSix: ‘All these conspiracy theorists don’t know anything. The world don’t have a clue.’

‘It’s up to the court of California to decide what’s best for my daughter. It’s no one else’s business,’ he added.

Meanwhile, Britney’s lawyers said in a statement published by TMZ in September: ‘Britney herself is vehemently opposed to this effort by her father to keep her legal struggle hidden away in the closet as a family secret.’

They added: ‘Far from being a conspiracy theory or a “joke” as James [Jamie] reportedly told the media, in large part this scrutiny is a reasonable and even predictable result of James’ aggressive use of the sealing procedure over the years to minimize the amount of meaningful information made available to the public.’
