Emily Blunt says her husband John Krasinski has wanted to do project Some Good News for five years

Emily Blunt has said her husband’s lockdown project Some Good News ‘became a wild horse’ after it ‘took over’ their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

John Krasinski, 41, started the news show in March after coronavirus began to sweep the globe to offer fans some light-hearted relief from the grave headlines.

The Mary Poppins Returns actress, 37, went onto reveal that John has wanted to do something like it for five years after it was picked up for a TV series on CBS in May.

The A Quiet Place actor set up a YouTube channel for SomeGoodNews at the end of March, promising a news show dedicated to entirely good news every Sunday night.     

Speaking on the Graham Norton Show which is set to air on New Year’s Eve, she said: ‘It was completely his invention, his doing. 

‘He’s wanted to do something like it for the last five years and during the pandemic it seemed like the right time. 

‘I think he thought it was going to be this silly sweet thing that nobody would see, and it turned into this massive deal. 

‘It became a wild horse in our house that took over. It was so wonderful because it turned the quarantine into something so productive and exciting. 

‘I truly was only making banana bread in the background while he did all of it. 

‘I think he would like it to continue. It was overwhelming at the time, but he really loved it.’  

John set up a YouTube channel for SomeGoodNews at the end of March, and the channel has now amassed 2.57 million subscribers. 

It promised a news show dedicated to entirely good news every Sunday night, where he discusses several feel-good stories and invites celebrity guests to join in conversation via video link. 

After eight episodes, the show was sold to ViacomCBS at the end of May. 

The Graham Norton Show airs on BBC One on New Year’s Eve at 10.25pm.
