York drinkers make the most of Tier 2 rules as they head to bars and pubs

Revellers made the most of Tier 2 restrictions by partying in York last night despite plummeting temperatures and flooding.

Drinkers flocked to pubs, bars and restaurants as they continued their festive celebrations in the historic Roman city.

Women smiled for photographs and one showed off her flexibility by raising her right leg above her head in an eatery.

Meanwhile tension flared on the streets as two men were seen scrapping, with a man on a mobile trying to separate them.

The party continued despite plummeting temperatures in the north, with some areas waking up to a blanket of snow.

York even saw some flooding, with one picture showing a sign for Plonkers Wine Bar submerged after a deluge from Storm Bella.

Under Tier 4 restrictions, which affects areas including London, parts of Essex and Peterborough, pubs and restaurants as well as all non-essential shops must close.

The rules also state you cannot leave or be outside of your home unless you have what the Government deems a specific purpose, or a ‘reasonable excuse’.

These reasons include essential activities such as food shopping and exercise, childcare arrangements or going to work.

More than 40 per cent of England is settling in for lockdown conditions after a further six million people were placed under Tier 4 restrictions on Boxing Day.
