Armed police aim machine guns at suspect who entered bank ‘with fake firearm’ in dramatic arrest footage

Armed police were deployed to a street in west London today after a man entered a bank with a ‘suspected firearm’ in his rucksack.

The police force descended onto Acton Road in Park Royal at 2.36pm after the suspect, believed to be in his late teens, told staff at the bank he was in possession of a ‘suspicious device’.

The man was detained by armed officers stationed a few minutes away after he left the bank, the Metropolitan Police said. 

He remains in police custody and there have been no reported injuries.

In footage, which was captured by a witness, several police vehicles can be seen parked on the road as officers aim their firearms at the suspect.

The man is told to lift his top and slowly walk to the armed officers with his hands on his head.

During the clip, an officer can be heard shouting: ‘Walk towards me with your hands on your head. Slowly walk towards me!’

The suspect slowly approaches the police before he is detained by the officers.   

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: ‘Police were called at 14:36hrs on Wednesday, 23 to a bank in Acton Road NW10 after a man entered and claimed to staff that he was in possession of a suspicious device in a rucksack bag. 

‘He then left the bank and police were called. The man, believed to be aged in his late teens, was detained by armed officers a few minutes away.

‘A suspected firearm was recovered – at this stage it is not believed to be genuine.

‘The incident has now been stood down and cordons lifted and roads re-opened. 

‘The man remains in police custody. There are no reported injuries.’
