Gordon’s launches alcohol-free gin as evidence emerges that Britons are drinking less on average in lockdown

Gordon’s has launched an alcohol-free gin days after evidence emerged that Britons are drinking less on average in lockdown. 

The brand’s owner Diageo, which also owns Guinness and Johnnie Walker, is targeting gin fans trying to cut down.

The launch of the gin, which will cost £14 per bottle and is made by distilling the same botanicals used in the alcoholic version, follows a boom in the sale of low-alcohol drinks. 

But some drinkers have actually increased their consumption in lockdown. 

One in 20 people are drinking the equivalent of 5.5 bottles of wine per week, up from one in 30 in March, data from Public Health England showed.
