This is the moment a speedy Jack Russell gave huskies a run for their money as he beat his owner in a sled race.

Danil Vasilyev, 22, from Cheboksary, Russia took his dog Ram up a hill in the city to have a sled race on December 13.

Despite the dog’s tiny size, the sled is no competition for the terrier who sprints ahead and easily wins the race.

Danil filmed a video of the race and posted it on TikTok where it was viewed more than three million times.

In the clip, the pair are seen on the starting line, on top of a snowy hill, just before the race begins.

Ram, who is wearing a dog sweater, can’t wait to get started and gives his owner’s sled a tug with his mouth as he backs up excitedly with his tail wagging.

Danil gives himself a push start with his feet and the race sets off, with Ram taking a clear early lead.

The little Jack Russell sprints out front putting metres between him and his owner.

However, Danil on his sledge gains momentum as he slides down the hill and  catches up with Ram near the bottom.

The terrier and his owner are momentarily neck in neck until Ram races ahead to win the race.

Danil said the sled race was an ideal activity for Ram who is very energetic.

Viewers on Tik Tok expressed their amazement at Ram’s speed.

One wrote jokingly: ‘He’s not running, he’s flying.’

Another commented: ‘I still don’t understand how Jack Russell terriers can move their lil legs so fast.’

They may be small but Jack Russells are one of the fastest dog breeds, and can reach speeds of up to 38 miles per hour over short distances.

They were originally bred to hunt foxes in England nearly 200 years ago, which explains why they are so nimble.

Huskies can reach top speeds of about 30 miles per hour but their strength lies in their endurance as they are able to continue at speed over a long distance.

A Husky sled team can maintain a pace of 10 – 11 miles per hour for hours.

Jack Russell’s can run 10 miles a day but Huskies that are bred for sled races can run up to 100 miles in a day.
