Amazon’s ‘Made for You’ lets you create $25 custom t-shirts using selfies as a virtual body double

The worst part of shopping for clothes online is having to mail things back if they don’t fit.

Amazon Fashion is tackling that headache with a new service called ‘Made for You’ that creates custom-measure t-shirts.

You can choose different fabrics, necklines, sleeve lengths, fits and colors—and even create a custom label with your name on it.

Your custom shirt is then viewable on a virtual mannequin designed from full-body selfies you upload to the app.

The shirts, which are available for all Amazon customers in the US, cost $25 and take approximately five days to manufacture.

Amazon’s new Made for You service creates made-to-measure t-shirts and allows users to see how they look via virtual body doubles. Shoppers can choose fabric, color, neckline, sleeve length and even add a custom label with their name on it

Available on both the Amazon app and website, Made for You allows shoppers to choose between 100 percent pima cotton shirts and a lightweight, stretchier version that’s a blend of pima, modal and elastane.

Other aspects can be customized—V-neck or crew neck; short or long sleeve; slim, classic or relaxed fit.

There are eight color options in all, including cloud white, jet black, crimson red, true navy, soft coral, teal blue, heather gray and forest green.

After entering, height, weight and gender, your selections appear on a virtual mannequin that can be turned 360 degrees to see the shirt from every angle.

The app takes two full-body photos, one front and one rear, to help create a personalized mannequin. Amazon says the photos are deleted immediately after the body doubles are made

For more authentic experience, users can take two full-body selfies—showing front and rear—and get a custom mannequin.

According to TechCrunch, Amazon says the photos are deleted immediately after your body double is created.

It takes about five days to make a shirt, and customers always have the option of returning it for a full refund.

Right now the service is limited to t-shirts, but Amazon says more styles and options will be forthcoming.

The online mega-retailer partnered with style influencers like Caralyn Mirand Koch, Sai de Silva Ryan Clark, Mirand and Blake Scott to launch the service on Wednesday.

‘If your fit is off, the look is going to be off,’ said Clark in a promo video for Made for You. ‘Which is why I love, love, love this experience.’

Amazon has been doubling down on interactive services this week: It’s Halo fitness bracelets, which just became widely available, produces a body-fat reading based on a full-body underwear selfie, Engadget reports.

The tech not only displays BMI, but also shows users how they would look after shedding a few pounds.

In addition, Amazon says, the technology detects emotion by analyzing speech, monitors sleep through heart rate, and tracks activity based on intensity and duration of movement.

As Halo learns, it begins organizing conversations into positives or negatives, along with high or low energy. If the technology registers a voice as negative and low energy, for example, it may classify it as ‘discouraged’

Halo will apparently also tell users if they sound ‘condescending, ‘stern’ or ‘opinionated.’
