Hugh Jackman to co-host Triple M’s breakfast show with best friend Gus Worland to discuss the radio star’s new mental health campaign

He’s one of Hollywood’s most well-known actors, who happens to be best pals with Triple M star Gus Worland.

And on Thursday, Hugh Jackman announced he will join his friend of 44 years to co-host a one-off special on the station’s Monday breakfast slot, to discuss a mental health campaign close to both their hearts.

The duo will speak about about the new ‘Mind Your Mate’ campaign for Gus’ charity Gotcha 4 life, which will encourage people to connect on a deeper level with a pal and check in with each other every week.

According to a message shared to Hugh’s Instagram page, the campaign itself will begin on the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere – and the longest in Australia.

It serves as a metaphor for those are feeling that ‘every day is the darkest or longest right now’, during the festive period where depression will ‘continue to be amplified’.

On the show – titled ‘Mind Your Mate with Gus & Hugh’ – the duo will be joined by a number of celebrity friends, to reflect on the challenges of 2020 and its impact on mental health.

The pals will also discuss the ‘importance of taking an active role in building emotional muscle and resilience’.

Gus himself left Triple M’s Moonman In The Morning show last year, in order to focus his attention on his various mental health campaigns.

He has always been a passionate advocate for men’s mental health, and created the Gotcha 4 Life Foundation (G4L) in 2017.

The father-of-three didn’t leave Triple M all together, however, recreating the station’s Deadset Legends show alongside Wendell Sailor and Jude Bolton in 2020. It continues to air every Saturday morning.

After deciding to leave the morning show last year, Hugh sent his pal of almost five decades a touching video tribute to mark the end of an era.

‘I know he’s going to be crying the entire day because he cries most days anyway. But you have good reason to be emotional,’ the father-of-two said in the one and a half minute clip posted to their social media page.

‘You are the longest serving breakfast radio show host in Triple M history,’ he added.

Mind Your Mate with Gus & Hugh will air in Australia on Monday 21 December from 6-9am AEDT on Triple M
