Paloma Faith has candidly discussed why she decided to be very open about her second pregnancy, revealing she felt ‘fragile’ while carrying her first child.
The singer, 39, is expecting her second child with partner Lehman Lahcine after six rounds of IVF treatment, and spoke about her pregnancy on BBC Sounds Constantly Evolving podcast.
Reflecting on why she wanted to be open, Paloma said: ‘I think it’s important because with my first child I wasn’t honest and I struggled with that, everyone was treating me like a normal pregnant person. But I didn’t feel like one, I felt a bit fragile.’

She added: ‘I couldn’t be happy about being pregnant because it was so hard to get there, why would it stay there, so this time I’ve been feeling better because I’ve been open about it.
‘The fact my pregnancies aren’t that strong and I have to be careful. I also do it because other women need to hear those things. The process of being pregnant itself is difficult.’
Paloma, who was chatting with podcast host Eve, continued: ‘I look at you and see someone who has been under pressure of a career and keeping all the plates spinning. Often us woman who do that, we come to it late or miss it.
‘It’s a sacrifice, when I didn’t have anything in my twenties, I was constantly trying not to get pregnant but then when I found success I did want to get pregnant and it was harder than I thought.’

Elsewhere in the interview Paloma chatted about her partner Lehman, discussing how their personalities differ greatly.
She said: ‘My partner is the opposite to me, not an insult but is amazingly not ambitious, in a way that enviable to me. He’s so laid back, everyone’s like didn’t expect you to be with someone like that.
‘Last week when I was 4th in the charts and Andrea Bocelli was 3rd, he was learning all the Bocelli songs to rub salt in the wounds. But I’ve learned a lot from him by living with them.’
The star also spoke about how she’s sometimes referred too as ‘outspoken’, something which she doesn’t think is true.

She said: ‘I’m described as ‘outspoken Paloma Faith’, but I’m not particularly, I’m just someone who does what we’ve talked about, I have morals and I wouldn’t sit back and let someone say something I didn’t agree with. Men aren’t outspoken, they’re just men.’
It comes after Paloma revealed she was undergoing further tests for gestational diabetes after revealing to fans she failed her first check.
The Voice Kids judge took to Instagram on Sunday to announce she has cancelled her Christmas break to attend necessary hospital appointments.
Sharing a photo of herself displaying her growing bump, she wrote: ‘So this week I failed a gestational diabetes test and need to do the 4 hour one next week.

‘I had booked to go to a cottage in the country 4 hours outside of London during the Xmas holiday, but due to my panic about getting Covid and the potential double act of gestational diabetes and Placenta Previa, I decided to stay home to be near the hospital I know.’
Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that affects pregnant women, usually during the second or third trimester. It can affect people who didn’t have diabetes before their pregnancy and usually goes away after the birth.
It occurs when the hormones produced during pregnancy make it difficult for your body to use insulin properly, putting you at an increased risk of insulin resistance.

Placenta Previa (low-lying placenta) occurs when the placenta covers part or all of the cervix during the last months of pregnancy, and can cause severe bleeding before or during labour.
The singer who is already mum to a four-year-old daughter added: ‘It’s a fine line between trying to continue life and juggling the trauma of my previous birth experience and the panic I face negotiating this one.
‘All the time trying to work and bat away the little voice in my head that tells me every day my career is failing/my body is failing/my pregnancy is failing… And staying optimistic without being able to see friends and loved ones, and to be honest most of all an audience! ‘
