Light relief! Neighbour has the perfect one word answer to next door’s traffic-stopping Christmas illuminations

  • Malcolm Finch, from London, put up a comical sign which spells ‘ditto’ in lights
  • His simple display pointed to his neighbour’s home, covered in illuminations
  • Shared hilarious creation on Twitter saying he didn’t think he could compete

A homeowner came up with the perfect way to respond to his neighbour’s traffic-stopping Christmas lights, in the form of a small but effective sign.

Malcolm Finch, from London, shared a clip from outside his house which revealed the great efforts his neighbours had gone to to deck out the front of their home in hundreds of lights, outshining anything he could have created.

Feeling like he could not compete with their enormous display, he simply placed a light-up sign spelling ‘ditto’ on his home, pointing in the direction of his neighbour’s house.

Malcolm Finch, from London, shared a comical video comparing his Christmas lights efforts compared to the impressive display his neighbours had put on

In the hilarious 20 second clip, it is possible to see just how much time and dedication was put into creating the colourful set up outside the neighbour’s house.

Blue lights twinkled beautifully, light up icicle style decorations were hung from the roof and a golden star shone in the centre of the festive home.

The neighbours had also gone to the trouble of setting up a projector, shining images of snowflakes onto the walls.

But in contrast to their home which looked like a Christmas grotto, Malcolm pans the camera round to his home which is nearly in darkness on a rainy afternoon to reveal his festive efforts.

The hilariously small ‘ditto’ sign, which is attached to the front of his bungalow and has an arrow pointing in the direction of his neighbour’s home, soon comes into focus.

Malcolm, who was helped to create the sign by someone he knows, shared the funny video on Twitter.

Malcom said he could not compete with the neighbour's impressive display

Believing he could not compete with the neighbour’s impressive display (right), Malcolm created a small light-up sign which read ‘ditto’ and pointed next door

He said: ‘I can’t compete with the next door neighbour’s amazing Christmas lights, but I wanted to do something.’

The video has since received dozens of comments from people expressing how much they enjoyed it.

One Twitter user wrote ‘so funny’, while others described Malcolm’s efforts as ‘brilliant’ and ‘fabulous’.

‘It’s the thought that counts after all,’ another said.

Others drew attention to the work Malcolm had put in: ‘I wish to appreciate the work involved here. You had it specially made – designed it, layout, research, collection) -or you made it very carefully from a chain of lights yourself.’
