‘Okay, so I’m going through divorce and there’s been like a lot of – I don’t know, like books and people always give you stuff to like help, especially when you have kids and stuff,’ said Kelly, who shares River, six, and Remington, four, with Brandon.

‘And I know that you’ve been divorced as well, and it was like: “Man, there’s so much like shame and guilt and everybody kinda sends you stuff.” And I was like, I don’t know, just kinda working through it and I couldn’t quite nail down like the feeling.’

She explained the mix of emotions by sharing that ‘you don’t wanna c**p on it. Like you don’t wanna say like: “That didn’t count or matter.” But you don’t know what to put it in it, ’cause it didn’t work out how you wanted.’

Kelly was ‘listening to my playlist and The Dance came on and I was like: “No, that’s the thing! That’s it.” So I literally – it’s not like your song, like a rip-off – but I literally wrote this whole thing like therapeutically and it’s actually on my next album.’

The American Idol superstar even offered fans a brief sneak peek of her song, crooning the lines: ‘Even though my heart is broken it was worth the dance anyway.’

Kelly said of The Dance that ‘I sang that song from childhood, and I – it never hit me!’ dishing that she was left ‘literally bawling’ when she heard the song amid divorce.

Garth croons in the number: ‘And now I’m glad I didn’t know the way it all would end, the way it all would go. Our lives are better left to chance. I could’ve missed the pain, but I’d have had to miss the dance.’

When the song was released he was three years into his first marriage to Sandy Mahl – in 1999, a decade after he first sang The Dance, they separated.

They finalized the divorce in 2001 and four years later Garth tied the knot with his fellow country crooner Trisha Yearwood who is still his wife.

While chatting to Garth on her show Kelly said that ‘a lot of people that go through such a devastating – it’s a, there’s a lot of grief with it, a lot of loss, and a lot of change especially with kids.’

Although ‘the books were helpful,’ Kelly theorized that it was ‘I guess ’cause I’m a musician’ that The Dance had such a powerful effect on her.

‘I got the point. And I don’t – I think sometimes that’s so crazy, like you don’t know that’s gonna happen. And you’re like, you’ve known this song your entire life and you freak out when it actually is a direct impact.’

Brandon and Kelly were married for seven years before she filed for divorce in June, and she has obtained primary custody of the children.

‘Kelly’s offered to pay for all the kids’ expenses, but Brandon seems to think he is entitled to and needs $301K in spousal support and $135K in child support per month,’ a People source claimed last month.

‘Additionally, he’s already asked for $2M for attorney fees when he’s the one driving up the cost of the divorce with seven attorneys just representing him alone.’

The divorce has become increasingly nasty and Kelly is now alleging that Brandon and his company Starstruck Management defrauded her.

She called her agreement with the company a ‘fraudulent and subterfuge device’ in a filing to the California Labor Commission.

Kelly has also claimed they were not licensed to be her agents and accused them of ‘illegal services,’ according to documents obtained by OK! Magazine.

Starstruck is owned by Brandon’s father Narvel Blackstock, who used to be married to Reba McEntire and is also named in Kelly’s filing.

The filing asks that ‘all agreements between the parties, should be declared void and unenforceable, no monies should be paid by [Clarkson] to [Starstruck Management and the Blackstocks], and all monies previously paid by [Clarkson] to [Starstruck Management and the Blackstocks] should be disgorged forthwith.’

Narvel has claimed Kelly owes Starstruck $1.4 million in commission, and sued her in October over the matter, according to OK!.

He also alleged that with her earnings from her talk-show and The Voice, Kelly will in the future owe a further $4 million to his company.

The labor petition conveniently ignores the fact that Kelly had her own licensed talent agency CAA at all times,’ Starstruck lawyer Bryan Freedman contended to TMZ after news broke of her California Labor Commission filing.

‘While Starstruck Management Group provided talent management services on her behalf, it did so at all times that CAA was her agency of record,’ he said.

‘It is unfortunate that Kelly is again attempting to avoid paying commissions that are due and owing to Starstruck to try and achieve some perceived advantage in her ongoing custody and divorce proceedings.’

Garth married his first wife in 1986 and they welcomed three daughters into the world – Taylor, 28, August, 26, and Allie, 24.

In 2000 after he separated from Sandy he left show business for a few years so that he could devote his full attention to being a father.

When he first met Tricia he was just over a year into his marriage to Sandy, he revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2013.

Upon being introduced to Tricia he ‘felt that feeling like when you just meet your wife’ – but he was determined at that point to stay with Sandy.

‘And so you being married, it’s gotta be right. You know, this is who you went to college with, and you were married in front of God and your family and everything, and you keep hacking. You work and you work and you work, and then comes that time where you’re looking at the rest of your life going: “How do you wanna live it?”‘

Ultimately he and Sandy divorced and afterwards he began dating Trisha, marrying her in 2005 and beginning his comeback that year.
