Marty Sheargold to replace Triple M’s Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy in breakfast show

Ex-Nova FM star Marty Sheargold to replace Triple M’s Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy – as the comedian reveals his plan to attract listeners

Marty Sheargold left Nova FM’s top-rating national drive team of Tim, Kate and Marty in September because he ‘lost interest int hat show.’

And three months on from his departure, the 49-year-old has revealed he will host Triple M Melbourne’s breakfast show, following The Hot Breakfast’s co-hosts Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy finishing up after 11 years together.

His show will be called The Marty Sheargold Show and will air in Melbourne at breakfast, and nationwide daily from 3pm to 4pm on Triple M, from January 18.

It’s official! Triple M has announced Marty Sheargold (pictured), 49, will join the network in 2021 to host his own breakfast show from January 18

‘This type of show is something I’ve wanted to do for years and years and years,’ Marty told news.com.au.

‘To be given the opportunity by Triple M to do that is an absolute joy.

‘The show will be what I’ve always done: I’ll build that ‘club house’ and I’ll invite people to come and join.’

Marty added he looked forward to working alongside Troy Ellis, who has a ‘great breakfast radio brain’ and will work as the show’s anchor.

Triple M announced the father-of-two would be joining the network on Instagram on Saturday, uploading a gender reveal-themed video of Marty wearing a blue shirt and announcing ‘it’s a big boy!’.

‘REVEALED: Melbourne’s new way to wake up on 105.1 Triple M in 2021. Starting January 18,’ the station captioned its post.

Southern Cross Austereo chief content officer Dave Cameron added the network was ‘excited to welcome home The Marty Sheargold Show to Triple M and SCA.’

‘There is only one Marty Sheargold and there is only one home of rock, sport and comedy. 2021 cannot come quick enough,’ he said, Radio Today reported.

‘Getting Marty Sheargold back on Triple M in 2021 just made the world feel a little bit right again.’

Marty started his career with Triple M 17 years ago and hosted Shebang with Fifi Box from 2003 to 2008.

Speaking to the Herald Sun about leaving Tim, Kate and Marty in September, he  said: ‘I was always going. I had had enough of that show.’

‘I’d lost interest in that show and as an enjoyable experience as it was, I am at an age now where if I don’t have a tilt at something, if I didn’t really have a go at something, then I wouldn’t get another window to have a go because I am not getting any younger.’
