Back in March, Elysse penned a piece for the ABC and detailed her experience of flying back to Australia with her husband after a ski trip in Colorado, in the US, at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

Elysse said she first realised that the pandemic had become ‘serious’ after the mountain they were skiing at in Steamboat Springs, in Colorado, suddenly was forced to shut down.

She then detailed their lengthy journey home to Sydney, saying they had to drive to Denver for three hours to get to the airport, before jetting back to LA and then Australia.

But she said she was shocked at how packed their plane was and by the bio security measures at the airports.

Talking about their experience at LAX, she said: ‘We walked from one end to the other of the enormous Tom Bradley terminal, which can process 4,500 passengers per hour, and found one public hand sanitiser and few passengers or staff wearing gloves or masks.’

She said she was concerned that crew on board her flight from LA to Sydney had no idea if they themselves were meant to isolate after travelling.

‘Worryingly, airline staff didn’t know whether they were required to self-isolate. I asked crew as I was disembarking and got different answers ranging from “no” to “not sure” and “I don’t know,” she said.

Elysse said that she was forced to endure the strict 14-day quarantine after jetting into Australia.
