Actress Rashida Jones congratulated network executive Rashida Jones after she was named MSNBC’s next president Monday.

‘Congrats to Rashida Jones!!’ the Los Angeles native, 44, said in an Instagram post. ‘The FIRST BLACK PERSON EVER to run a major cable news network!!

‘I’m so proud to share a name with you and also take this #myelf challenge to the next level. Rashida Jones on Rashida Jones INFINITY. ZOOM IN.’

The Parks and Recreation alum added a shot of the news exec – who makes history becoming the first Black female leader of a cable network – with a miniature shot of herself photoshopped in sitting on her shoulder, with smaller likenesses in the background.

The Angie Tribeca star added: ‘*big ups to @misterkarate for coming in hot and fast with the photoshop skills.’ 

In her role as senior vice president of NBC News and MSNBC, Jones oversaw this year’s presidential debates while helping focus coverage during the coronavirus as well as the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde told staffers that Jones will fill the role after current MSNBC president Phil Griffin will be leaving the network early next year.

‘If you’ve worked with Rashida on any of those endeavors, you know that she has an outstanding track-record and she leads with a laser-like focus and grace under pressure,’ Conde said. ‘I know she will be an excellent leader for MSNBC.’

The news professional is a graduate of Hampton University and worked for NBC’s South Carolina affiliate and The Weather Channel prior to working at MSNBC.
