HGV driver narrowly avoids collision with van after it swerves across two lanes of the M1 during rush hour

This is the horrifying moment a lorry almost collided with a van after it veered across two motorway lanes during rush hour. 

HGV driver Scott Newsham, from Fleetwood, Lancashire, captured the footage on a dash cam while travelling on the M1 northbound on December 3 at 5.21pm. 

The video shows a white van travelling in the left-hand lane on the motorway before approaching traffic at a standstill at Junction 23a near Castle Donington, Derby.

Footage captures the white van brake and slow down as it approaches the traffic in the left-hand lane before moving across to the slip road. 

Suddenly the white van veers from the slip road into the middle lane before a lorry slams on its brakes before overtaking the van.

Mr Newsham described how ‘nothing surprises’ him anymore and said the ‘shocking’ incident is becoming a more common sight.   

He captioned the post to Facebook: ‘Good job the trucker was concentrating. Same Ole, Same Ole for us boys on the road these days.’ 

Speaking about the incident, he said: ‘My thoughts are the same as my post.

‘Nothing surprises me anymore with what happens on our roads. No enforcement, no educating signage. 

‘Same ole Same ole, ha. It’s shocking how bad it’s becoming, it’s getting worse.’
