A grandmother has been slammed after revealing she asked her daughter to pay her by the hour when she takes care of her baby grandson.

The woman was labelled as ‘greedy’, ‘unreasonable’, and  ‘insensitive’ when she posted her dilemma online.

The woman said her daughter asked if she would look after the one-year-old ‘two or three days’ each week, despite the grandmother having a day job of her own.

The grandmother asked for $15 per hour and felt ‘low balled’ when her daughter offered $10.

She said looking after the youngster would mean she wouldn’t be able to do her own work, despite working from home.

‘I am not a daycare, I need money to replace the time I am giving up from my job,’ she said.

People slammed the woman for her comments and said it was obvious she didn’t want to babysit at all because if she did she wouldn’t demand such an ‘outrageous’ amount.

One woman said the grandmother would be taking ’90percent’ of her daughter’s $22-an-hour paycheck once tax, lunch breaks and transportation were considered.

Others demanded she share her qualifications saying at $15 per hour she should have certificates in CPR, first aid and certificates in child care.

Others sided with the grandmother – as she also needs to be able to afford dropping two or three days of work per week to assist her daughter.

‘Why does she have to step up to the plate – she would have made sacrifices to bring up her own kids, she shouldn’t have to do it again for someone else,’ one said.

‘Why is she obligated to work for free to help her daughter?’ another asked.
