A firefighter in China has been praised for his love for small animals after he sang a song for a cat to entertain it.

Heart-melting footage shows the officer crooning the popular tune for the former stray, adopted by the brigade, before asking the moggie if it enjoyed the music.

The stray apparently gave the man its seal of approval by answering ‘meow’, which sounds almost identical to the word ‘well’ in Chinese.

The brigade has been looking after the animal for nearly three months after it accidentally walked into the complex.

The adorable scene was recently filmed at the Xi’an Fire Brigade in north-western China’s Shaanxi Province.

The stray cat has been living at the fire station since October when it walked into the complex and was discovered by the firefighters, according to the authority’s social media account.

The kind-hearted officers looked after the feline and even made a bed for it after the animal had decided to stay and join the rescue team.

In a video filmed in November, an off-duty officer is seen petting the moggie as he began singing a Chinese children’s song.

After the performance, the fireman asked his furry listener: ‘Did I sing well?’

To his surprise, the moggie seemed to have understood his question as it replied him with a meow, which sounds identical to the word ‘well’ in Mandarin.

The officer burst into laughter by the animal’s unexpected reaction and cuddled it affectionately.

The footage amused many netizens after the officials shared it on Douyin, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok.

The account jokingly claimed to have captured the ‘major moment of a human and a cat having a conversation’.

One viewer replied: ‘Haha this is hilarious!’

Another one said: ‘They are both so adorable. Firefighters also have a soft side.’

The heart-warming story comes as another stray cat adopted by Chinese firefighters is now accompanying them to stand guard come rain or shine.

The moggie would curl up to a duty officer’s feet or lie in front of his post when he keeps a close watch over the barracks in Guizhou Province, south-eastern China.

The team has looked after the pet for three years since it accidentally walked into the complex as a malnourished homeless kitten.
