The Mayor of Liverpool has been arrested in connection with bribery offences and witness intimidation.  

Joe Anderson was arrested by Merseyside Police alongside four other men as part of an ongoing building contracts probe, according to the Liverpool Echo.  

A 72-year-old, from Aigburth, has been arrested on suspicion of witness intimidation. 

A 62-year-old man, believed to be Anderson, was arrested on conspiracy to commit bribery and witness intimidation. 

Another man, 33, from West Derby, has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit bribery and witness intimidation.   

A 46-year-old man, from Ainsdale, has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit bribery and witness intimidation.

A 25-year-old man, from, Ormskirk, has been arrested on suspicion of witness intimidation.
