Who’s slurry now? Police catch suspected car thief who had a stinker of a getaway attempt when he fell into a neck-deep pit of cow poo while trying to flee officers

An unlucky suspected car thief was arrested after falling ‘neck-deep’ in a slurry pit, in a bid to escape from the police.  

The runaway, a passenger of a stolen car was hoping to get away but ended up in the trench of farmyard manure and was arrested  covered in cow poo.  

Sussex Police officers jokingly said ‘it was not his lucky day’ on a post with his photo on social media, where he can be seen  being apprehended with handcuffs on, covered in muck, while his trousers have been dragged down.

The caption reads: ‘This passenger of a stolen car thought he could get away, but it turned out not to be his lucky day.

‘Eager to evade and fleeing in a hurry, the suspect was eventually arrested, neck-deep in a pit of slurry.

‘Thanks to determined officers a rescue ensued, and they all ended up safe, but covered in cow poo.’  

He was one of two men arrested after the driver failed to stop for police on the A259 near Hooe, East Sussex on November 28.

After a high-speed chase, the suspects eventually stopped around six miles away in Wartling.  

The 24 year old passenger tried to run away from cops by cutting through a farm but he slipped and ended up in the slurry pit.

A 27-year-old man  was arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, failing to stop and possession with intent to supply cannabis while the passenger was detained on suspicion of being carried in a vehicle without the owner’s consent and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

Sussex Police said that both men have now been released on bail until December 24 while further enquiries are carried out. 

They are appealing for the driver of the blue BMW or anyone who can help the investigation to come forward with information.

PC Scott Franklin-Lester of Sussex Police said: ‘We would like to speak to the driver of a blue BMW which was nearly involved in a head on collision with the vehicle towards Hooe and would like any drivers who have dash cam footage of the incident to come forward.’
