Honest: David Furnish has shared a candid post about how he was ‘terrified’ of managing his husband Sir Elton John’s career, for fear it would damage their relationship

David, who has been with Elton since 1993, penned: ‘Just over 6 years ago, I made the challenging and terrifying decision to take on full responsibility for managing Elton.

‘He and I had already collaborated on film and theatre projects. And we absolutely thrived working side by side with the AIDS Foundation.

‘But, I felt reluctant to take on the added responsibility of his music career. I didn’t want to put our relationship under that kind of pressure.

‘However, I did feel inspired by what I saw as unfulfilled potential – particularly with the entire music business changing on an almost daily basis.’

David went on to say hitting more than 1 billion streams on Spotify was a ‘landmark moment’ and he ‘couldn’t be happier’.

‘Change is never easy,’ he said.

‘I want to extend huge thanks and abundant gratitude to everyone on our team who has supported my vision for Elton.

‘It’s been one helluva ride and I’ve loved working with everyone on our brilliant team.

‘Here’s to many more years of Elton soaring like a rocket to newer heights.

‘Congratulations everyone and of course thanks to all of Elton’s fans for keeping the music alive with every listen.’

It comes after David appeared on Loose Women on Tuesday where he told the panel they have raised their sons Zachary, nine, and Elijah, seven, to be ‘grounded’ in life.

He said: ‘It is daddy up on stage. They are very proud of him obviously and they love his songs but when he comes home he leaves Elton John behind.

‘It is always very much daddy’s work and that’s what he does but he doesn’t bring it into the household and he doesn’t talk about it in any kind of glorified way. They seem to be quite grounded about it and I hope that continues to last.’
