This is the bizarre moment a wallaby was spotted hopping along a country lane in Devon.

Footage shows the animal bouncing along a country road in Hemyock, Devon, on December 1.

The wallaby jumps along the road in front of the car before disappearing into a hedge on the right side of the road.

Footage shows the animal bouncing along a country road in Hemyock, Devon, on December 1, and as the car follows behind the animal jumps into a hedge on the right

As the car goes to pass the part of the hedge the animal has jumped into, it quickly bounces back out in front of the car and continues up the road.

The marsupial then hops along a country lane to the left and disappears into the darkness before the car follows behind it.

The headlights shine just long enough to see the animal turn another corner before the footage ends.

Grace Brooke, 27, captured the video while driving in the car with her twin sister Beth, and at first thought the animal was a kangaroo.

During the clip, she said: ‘Oh my gosh! Did you see that? Oh my gosh, it’s a kangaroo!’

Since taking the video she has found out the animal was actually a wallaby.

Ms Brooke said: ‘I’ve since been told they are actually wild wallabies but I had no idea they even existed in the UK?!

‘We were shocked at first and couldn’t quite believe our eyes. When we realised what it was we were very excited and couldn’t quite believe how lucky we were to see it!’

She added: ‘We have lived in Hemyock our entire lives and had never heard about it or even seen it!’
