Tori Kelly says kids with her husband would be ‘special at some point’: ‘We’re not in any rush’

When the topic of expanding her family came up recently, singer Tori Kelly was quick to put things in perspective.

The American Idol alum, who turns 28 this month, spoke to People Magazine on Tuesday on the occasion of her recently released holiday album, titled A Tory Kelly Christmas. 

And when asked about the prospect of having kids with her husband of two years, Andre Murillo, Kelly said they were ‘not in any rush.’

‘We’ve talked about kids, of course. And it’s something that would be, I think so special at some point, whenever we decide,’ Tori reflected.   

‘But we’re not in any rush. I think we’re just enjoying being together as a couple and we have our two little dog babies. So that’s keeping us busy for now.’

Additionally, the chanteuse is taking this time of lockdown and quarantine to strengthen her bond to Andre, 30.

‘Quarantine has been really okay. It’s kind of hard to say it’s been great,’ Kelly said. 

‘Having the studio in my house has really kept me busy the whole time, just down there recording. Andre’s been great. He would even bring me food sometimes because I would forget to eat — he’d bring me coffee.’

She also shared more about her marriage, saying ‘we’re just enjoying being together.’ 

‘We were long-distance for most of our dating relationship, so to basically be forced to be in the same place together for a long period of time, we couldn’t really complain because we’re so used to being apart,’ Tori added. 

‘Maybe this is our way of making up for lost time.’

However, the extended time at home has also come with some hurdles.

‘We can’t complain,’ the two-time Grammy winner said of her marriage. ‘We’re not perfect and I’d be lying if I said everything was always great and roses and butterflies, but we just work through it.

‘The beauty of marriage is that you’re just committed to that person,’ she went on. ‘So during quarantine, we definitely learned a lot about each other and are continuing to grow together.’

Most recently, Tori was featured as a performer at the 2020 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. 

And on Tuesday, she also shared some festive BTS footage from her new music video for holiday track 25th to her Instagram. 

Regarding her new Christmas album, Tori said it was a bucket-list item for her. 

‘It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,’ she shared. ‘And this year just seemed like this would be the year to do it — to bring hopefully some hope and some light to people during such a crazy year.’
