Dior moves into loungewear – but would YOU pay £2,450 for a set of pyjamas?

Would YOU pay £2,450 for a set of pyjamas? Dior moves into loungewear with its new Chez Moi range featuring hoodies and silky twinsets

  • Range is the brainchild of Dior’s Italian creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri
  • Chez Moi range designed during lockdown and designed for luxuriating at home
  • Contains a pyjama set with trousers and blouse and a hooded Dior sweater

While 2020 has been a difficult year for retailers and fashion houses, it’s certainly seen a meteoric rise in the popularity of loungewear.

With the UK under lockdown for months on end, pyjamas and activewear have become the go-to wardrobe staple for Britons across the country.

So perhaps it’s only logical that luxury fashion house Dior has branched out to include its own range – with a designer price tag.

It’s the first collection dedicated to loungewear in the brand’s 74 years, and was conceptualised by Dior’s Italian creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri during the ‘confinement period’ – aka lockdown.

Adorned with toile du jouy motifs and zodiac print, items include silk twill pyjama pants (a cool £1,150), a jacket (£1,300) and a reversible zipped cardigan with a hood – priced at £2,150.

Crafted in terry cotton jacquard, the hoody has a front zip and a ribbed hem and cuffs. One side is solid ecru and the other features the Dior Oblique motif.

The ‘versatile’ hooded cardigan enables flexibility in styling and features a band at the back with a Christian Dior signature.

There’s also a longer version, offering a casual look ‘inspired by a kimono’, with a belt tie at the waist and a price tag of £2,700.

Since arriving at Dior four years ago, Grazia Chiuri has focused on creating clothes that women can actually wear, as opposed to those more fitting for the catwalk.

‘To be creative and wearable, that is what I work to achieve,’ she told The Times, adding that lockdown reminded her ‘how important it can be to see, to feel your best self when you are alone’.

‘My clothes are a kind of house for my body and they have to feel like the right space for me to reside in,’ she went on.

‘To be uncomfortable is so outdated. I always want freedom of movement, of attitude.’

Last week it emerged Johnny Depp fans are flocking to buy his Dior fragrance after he lost his ‘wife beater’ libel trial against The Sun newspaper.

The American actor, 57, continues to be the face of the Sauvage scent, with a TV advert appearing during this week’s Bake Off final on Channel 4.

The luxury brand appears to have stuck by Depp, despite a judge branding him ‘a monster’ who had battered his now ex-wife Amber Heard 12 times during their marriage.
