Boy arrested on suspicion of raping 21-year-old woman in park

Boy aged 13 is among four male teenagers arrested on suspicion of raping 21-year-old woman in darkened Sheffield park during lockdown

Four boys aged as young as 13 were arrested today after a 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped in a park after dark.

The children, aged 13, 14, 15 and 16, were arrested nine days after the woman was said to have been attacked at High Hazels Park in Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police launched an investigation after receiving reports of the incident in the Darnall area of the city on November 23 at about 6pm.

Officers carried out two warrants before arresting the boys – who are all now in custody – and have stepped up local patrols in the area.

A police spokesman said today: ‘Four people have been arrested following reports of a rape in Darnall, Sheffield last week.

‘At around 6pm that evening, it was reported that a 21-year-old woman was raped by a group of four males in High Hazels Park.

‘Today officers executed two warrants in the Darnall area as part of their enquiries.

‘Four boys aged 13, 14, 15 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of rape and remain in custody at this time.’

Speaking last week, Detective Inspector Ben Wood said: ‘I understand that news of this incident is likely to cause distress and concern among the local community.’
