A savvy fisherman has been praised online after he built his own boat out of a rainwater tank, attaching a motor to the vessel so he can glide seamlessly through the water.

The bucket hat-wearing man was spotted travelling slowly through Australian waters on his nifty creation, to the amusement of other fisherman.

Video footage shared to Tinny Boat Mods on Facebook showed the man – wearing a life jacket for safety – standing aboard his floating device.

Three fishing rods were attached to the front of the vessel as the man directed the boat with a motor latched onto the back.

The homemade watercraft also included a neatly finished wooden edge where the motor sits.

The man who sighted the fisherman wrote: ‘How’s this for a build I stumbled across today.’

The post has been shared more than 20,000 times, with many commending the man’s creativity.

‘Now this is what I call a boat! What a legend, sure is one way of doing it,’ one person commented.

‘You have to applaud the ingenuity. Good on him,’ another wrote.

Other viewers debated whether they should follow suit and build their own vessel.

‘Did I really just spend that much on a boat when I could of had one of these,’ a comment read.

‘Any boat is better than no boat!’ Added another.

A third said: ‘How Aussie is this.’

It appears as though the body of the boat has been built with a 1000 litre storage pod, which are typically used to transport and store liquids.
