Jeremy Renner’s Marvel superhero series Hawkeye slated to begin filming in Downtown Brooklyn

New York City is about to see some superhero action.

Last Thursday, residents of Downtown Brooklyn were alerted to notices posted to  notify them that filming on a series entitled Anchor Point was set to begin the week afterwards.

Upon investigation, many were surprised to find out that the name of the production was the working title of the upcoming Disney+ series Hawkeye.

Coming soon: The upcoming Disney+ series Hawkeye is set to begin filming in Downtown Brooklyn soon. The character is seen portrayed by Jeremy Renner in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron

The notice advised residents to move their vehicles in order for filming to occur.

The show is set to follow the title character, portrayed by 49-year-old Jeremy Renner, as his time away from both the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D is expanded upon.

Marvel Studios initially announced the development of shows centered on characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2018, with the archer seen as one of the main prospects for a series.

The year afterwards, it was officially announced that a miniseries based on Hawkeye would be premiering on the streaming service.

Renner had originally signed on to feature in a standalone film, but the idea was retooled by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

In September of 2019, it was announced that series creator Jonathan Igla would also be serving as the head writer on the show, and that the creative team had hired directors who had previously created more lighthearted material.

Details about the show emerged over time, and it was revealed that part of the show would focus on the passing of the Hawkeye mantle from Clint Barton to Kate Bishop.

Speculation about who would be given the role of Bishop quickly centered on Hailee Steinfeld, who was reportedly the lead contender for the part.

Sticking around: Renner has portrayed the character in five films, beginning with 2011's Thor; he is seen alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Chris Evans, and Sebastian Stan in 2016's Captain America: Civil War

However, the 23-year-old actress’ busy schedule has resulted in the role remaining open, and in November, she told RadioTimes that her involvement in the part was: ‘not something that’s necessarily happening.’

She did note that she is still considering taking on the role, adding that, ‘We’re going to wait and find out, I guess.’

To date, no other actresses have been approached regarding the character.

Principal photography began in late October at Trilith Studios in Georgia, where many other Marvel Studios productions have been filmed.

The series is tentatively set to premiere on the streaming service in either late 2021 or early 2022.
