Hugh Grant says Renée Zellweger ‘is one of the few actresses he hasn’t fallen out with’

Hugh Grant has admitted Renée Zellweger ‘is one of the few actresses he hasn’t fallen out with’.

The actor, 60, who played her boyfriend Daniel Cleaver in the Bridget Jones’s Diary franchise, revealed they’ve managed a close friendship and ‘still exchange long emails’ during a recent interview on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show.

Thespian Hugh detailed his relationship with the Judy star, 51, after previously suggesting his on-screen lovers Julianne Moore, Rachel Weisz and Drew Barrymore ‘loathe, despise and hate’ him.

‘I love Renée. Uh, she’s one of the few actresses I haven’t fallen out with’, the former bachelor said, before adding: ‘And, we, we got on very well together and, we still exchange long emails.’

The media personality went on to poke fun at Renée’s extensive messages as he explained: ‘Hers in particular, at least 70 pages each, interesting stuff, but quite hard to decipher.

‘She’s a properly good egg and a genius. Did you see her Judy Garland? About as good as acting gets.’

The father-of-five later reflected on his role as dreamy Daniel, who is involved in an on-off relationship with his colleague Bridget in the 2001 blockbuster and its sequel Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason in 2004.

Hugh stated: ‘I quite enjoyed playing Daniel, I related to him. He’s a disappointed man who was in publishing and always wanted to write his own book but hadn’t.

‘With all that going on, I think I created a fascinating back story to him – none of which come through in the final performance.’

In a 2009 interview with Elle, the Gentleman star shared his honest opinions about his female co-stars, insisting some aren’t his biggest fan.

The Hollywood icon said of Julianne, 59, who he fronted 1995 hit film Nine Months with: ‘Brilliant actress. Loathes me.’
