Moment ‘idiot’ driver swerves into puddle to ‘deliberately’ drench unwitting pedestrian

This is the moment a heartless driver appeared to deliberately swerve into a puddle so he could completely drench a boy standing by the side of the road.

Ollie Wood was on his way to do some food shopping at Asda in Wigan on October 4 when he pulled up behind a dark blue Volkswagen Golf.

His dashcam footage shows the two of them driving carefully through a residential area past parked cars on the pavement.

As the Golf came to the end of the parked cars, a boy ‘in his early teens’ wearing a blue hoodie was standing on the side of the road minding his own business.

The Golf’s driver – who had been in the middle of the road for most of the journey – appears to intentionally turn his car towards the footpath and into the puddle.

Muddy water flies into the air, covering the child from head to toe as he tries and fails to protect himself from the deluge by hunching his shoulders.

Having passed the victim, the Golf then swerves back away from the kerb and speeds off into the distance without stopping.

Mr Wood said: ‘The driver was an absolute idiot. You could see he went out of his way to soak the lad.

‘I don’t know what enjoyment you could get out of doing this to someone.

‘The kid was just standing at the side of the road. By the looks of it the only thing he did wrong was being near a massive puddle.

‘Someone’s child would have come home that day drenched, for no reason whatsoever.

‘I carried on to Asda but the Golf just sped off out of sight without a thought of looking back.’  

Splashing pedestrians is illegal under the Road Traffic Act 1988 and can result in a fine of up to £5,000.
