Byron Bay locals furious as they claim production for Nicole Kidman’s new series is causing huge traffic jams in the coastal town

Production for Nicole Kidman’s new Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers is currently underway in Byron Bay.

But it appears that the locals are less than impressed that the highly anticipated drama series is filming in the laid back Northern NSW coastal town.

Commenting on celebrity gossip Instagram account, Deux Moi, several users have claimed that the production is causing huge traffic jams on their roads.

‘It’s a small town, but traffic is so bad due to roadworks AND Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy’s new series shutting off an alternative route to get into town,’ wrote one.

Meanwhile, some users said that they are ‘mad’ that Byron Bay has recently become a ‘celebrity hotspot’.

‘Productions over the area have also taken over A LOT of rentals. People are mad about the celebrity takeover,’ shared another.

A third commented: ‘Everyone knows Byron Bay is one of the most beautiful places in Australia, but since COVID hit, it seems to be the new celebrity hotspot.’

Nicole, 53, has been living in Byron Bay on-and-off with her husband Keith Urban and their two daughters since filming for the show began earlier this year.

Nine Perfect Strangers is based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel of the same name.

The limited series is being produced by Nicole’s production company Blossom Films, alongside Big Little Lies collaborators Bruna Papandrea and David E. Kelley.

It stars several A-listers including, Melissa McCarthy, Samara Weaving, Luke Evans, and Bobby Cannavale.

In July, Nicole told The Daily Telegraph she’s ‘thrilled’ to be able to bring the $100 million production and hundreds of jobs to the local film industry after it was sent crashing down by the coronavirus pandemic.

‘It is a great opportunity for me to give back to the community that nurtured me through so much of my career,’ she said.
