‘I’m the coolest mum at my daughter’s school! Denise Van Outen joins the cast of Fireman Sam as the crazed scientist Professor Polonium
Denise Van Outen has revealed she’s joined the cast of Fireman Sam as the crazed scientist Professor Polonium.
The Dancing on Ice star, 46, gushed that her daughter Betsy, 10, couldn’t be more excited by her new role in the special Fireman Sam: Norman Price and the Mystery in the Sky, which will air on Cartoonito on Saturday 5th December.
Denise’s character is set to wreak havoc across Pontypandy as she tries to prove she’s the best hero there is with her brand new invention, but things go pear-shaped when her invention sparks fires all over the town.

Denise gushed that she couldn’t be more honoured to be asked to appear in the iconic children’s series, which has been a family favourite for over 30 years.
She said: ‘It’s a real privilege and honour to be asked to be part of Fireman Sam. The show is an institution for us in our family and I absolutely love it.
‘My daughter Betsy is going to be so surprised when she finds out I have got a starring role.
‘We always used to watch it together and I am definitely going to be the coolest mum at her school.’

Describing her character Professor Polonium, Denise said the Professor is hoping to become the town’s new hero with her suit, but in typical Fireman Sam fashion things go pear-shaped.
Her assistant Dr Crumpton stages a series of accidents across the town so Polonium’s suit can swoop in and save the day, with the town fondly naming their vigilante Flying Man.
However things take a hilarious turn when Polonium unleashes her untested version of the suit, which causes chaos by setting fires all over PontyPandy.

Denise added: ‘I am thrilled to be playing professor Polonium. She’s quite larger than life, very excitable, very opinionated and quite bossy, and she is out to make as much money as she possibly can.
‘She goes to Pontypandy with her super rescue suit, which is her invention. She wants to show off, she thinks she’s going to make millions of pounds, actually she says she’s going to be a trillionaire.
‘Except there is one small problem; everything goes slightly wrong and she causes havoc. Cue lots of fires!’
Denise is not the first star to show off her voiceover skills, as David Tennant and John Barrowman have also made guest appearances in the show.
