The Real’s Jeannie Mai has dropped 15lbs since emergency throat surgery and feels ‘really frail’

She made a cameo appearance on Monday night’s Dancing With The Stars season 29 finale and returned Tuesday to her hosting gig on The Real.

But Jeannie Mai says she still has a ways to go in her recovery from emergency surgery for epiglottis that saved her life.

‘I am really frail right now. Really, really frail [and] really tired because I’m so underweight and malnourished,’ the TV personality, 41, told People.

Long recovery: Jeannie Mai says she feels ‘really frail’ and ‘really tired’ after emergency throat surgery earlier this month left her unable to eat solids and confined to bed rest

Mai revealed she has dropped 15 lbs since her hospitalization three weeks ago as a result of bed rest and a restricted post-operative diet.

‘I couldn’t eat anything for two weeks, so I was tube feeding there in the hospital for a week, and I had a nurse come in every two hours just to make sure I was breathing,’ she shared.

‘After I left the hospital, for a week being at home, I still had to be on an IV and I could not move, because anything you do that raises your blood pressure causes your throat to tighten up.’

Mai said she existed on cold soups and juices and is only now beginning to eat more solid foods such as porridge and matzo balls.

She told People she is ’96 percent better, where I can speak. I can’t yell, but I can speak’ and ‘can’t wait to get back into the gym to gain back my body and health.’

Mai, who is engaged to rapper Jeezy, was forced to drop out of Dancing With The Stars at the beginning of November after being diagnosed with epiglottis.

‘What simply started as a sore throat had unbeknownst to me become a dangerous infection that already closed at least 60% of my airway and resulted in a throat abscess that spread in a matter of 3 days,’ she shared with her fans via Instagram at the time.

She was immediately taken into surgery once her condition was diagnosed in which her tonsils were removed and the abscess in her throat cut open to drain the liquid.
