Neil Patrick Harris looked in high spirits as he touched down in New York City to reunite with his husband and two kids, just days ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

The 47-year-old actor, who is based in the Big Apple with his family, put safety first by wearing a green and black face mask amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

His flight comes as a staggering number of Americans are moving forward with their Thanksgiving travel plans, despite coronavirus cases surging across the country.

While the How I Met Your Mother star navigated his way through John F Kennedy International Airport on Monday, he sported a black leather jacket with gold zippers.

He paired his laid-back ensemble with a charcoal grey t-shirt, jeans, a pair of grey Adidas sneakers and a flat cap over his blonde hair.

As Harris exited the airport lobby, he could be seen wearing a black backpack with his essentials and keeping his phone tucked into his back pocket.

This comes as US residents have been traveling heavily.

At noon on Tuesday, data from FlightRadar24 showed 6,972 planes crisscrossing the U.S., slightly down from last year but even more than at the same time and day in 2018. The U.S. flights on Tuesday accounted for 65 percent of worldwide planes in the air, up from less than half each of the last two years.

Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to plead with Americans not to travel for the holiday, in order to limit the spread of the virus.

On Monday, the seven-day rolling average of daily coronavirus deaths nationwide topped 1,500 for the first time since May 14, according to CDC data.

In September, Harris revealed he, his husband David Burtka, 45, and their nine-year-old twins Gideon and Harper all contracted the coronavirus in the spring.

All four have recovered now and are doing well, but the actor described their experience as ‘not pleasant’ on the Today Show.

‘It happened very early [in the pandemic], like late March, early April,’ he explained. ‘We were doing our best before, and I thought I had the flu, and I didn’t want to be paranoid about it. And then I lost my sense of taste and smell, which was a big indicator, so we holed up.’

Although a loss of the sense of taste or smell wasn’t initially believed to be a symptom of COVID-19, the CDC later added the sudden loss to its list of potential symptoms after many people reported it early in their illnesses.
