‘What’s going on?’ Fans left confused as ABC radio stations play ‘distorted robotic audio’ for 90 minutes due to major technical glitch

Listeners of several ABC radio stations were left confused on Wednesday after the network suffered a major technical glitch.

For 90 minutes, Triple J, Double J, ABC Classic, Radio National, ABC Sydney and News Radio, broadcast distorted audio.

Several fans expressed their outrage on Twitter, with one writing: ‘What’s going on with the static frequency in Brisbane today on 107.7??? More ABC funding cuts?’

‘Every single ABC national station ( triple j, RN, NewsRadio ) has been broadcasting distorted, robotic audio for the last hour,’ another said.

One person wrote: ‘@triplej What’s happening??? I don’t know how to get ready for work with you!!!’

‘Is it just my phone or has the abc listen app shat itself? @RNBreakfast’ another one asked.

‘I thought it was my fancy new Sonos speaker! But tried to listen on my phone and also sh*t,’ one commented.

After the signal finally returned to normal at 8am, Triple J host Bryce Mills said: ‘I think we’re back! I think we’re there! I think the app’s fixed as well.’

‘It’s been an hour and a half of just absolute madness. I’m pretty sure the BBC started playing again for some reason,’ he continued.

‘Thank you for bearing with us. I don’t know how it was fixed, I wasn’t part of the solution, we just had to sit here and press buttons. We don’t know how it even started.’

Bryce has temporily replaced former Triple J Breakfast hosts Sally Coleman and Erica Mallett until new hosts are confirmed for 2021.

The pair announced they are leaving the radio station last week, and revealed they’re keen to ‘pursue other opportunities’ following a year of service to the station.
