Beverley Callard’s husband Jon McEwan has explained how he will surprise her with a secret vow renewal ceremony following her stint on this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

During Monday’s Loose Women, the actress’ fourth spouse revealed he wants to ‘reaffirm their love’ for each other with a second wedding, ten years after they first tied the knot.

The studio owner shared details on what he plans on telling Corrie star, 63, when he proposes again, teasing: ‘Beverley, you were the queen before you even walked in. We’re going to do this, just for us.’

A smitten Jon admitted while he was initially confused about the idea, he now understands the importance of a second wedding.

The former military member told panellists Andrea McLean, Brenda Edwards, Judi Love and Linda Robson: ‘I never understood why people renew vows but I do now. We’ll just reaffirm our love basically.

‘Before we had a big wedding with 22 bridesmaids. I’d take her to one side and say, ”I’ve got it all planned, it’s all done. You’ve just got to come with me.” It will be very quiet, just family and a few close friends I think.

‘It’s not a secret anymore but I thought, if she can get through there and do this, I started planning it then. 

‘We’ve gone into another lockdown now, I’m the 4th husband believe it or not, so I thought, I can renew the vows. It’s almost there in the planning, with Covid permitting.’

Soap star Beverley is currently roughing it out in North Wales’ Gwrych Castle during the current edition of the survival programme.

This year has seen the show relocate from Australia to the UK due to travel concerns sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

On her stint, Jon said this series served as the perfect opportunity for her, especially as she was unable to go fly abroad due to a recent hip operation.

The drummer said: ‘She’s doing great, she wouldn’t believe how well she’s doing. 

‘I think she has [picked the right time]. Before, with the flight, when we originally talking about going on, the doctors said she couldn’t do it anyway so Wales was perfect.’

On displaying her cheeky habits in the haunted building, he added: ‘She talks in her sleep, kicks me in the back, punches me. Good thing she’s in a single bed!’ 

Jon also claimed the thespian had forgotten her secret signal, which was to twiddle her hand as a covert message to the folks back home. 

Media personality Beverley was first married to Paul Nelson between 1974 until 1978, before she wedded David Sowden in 1980 for eight years. 

The TV star’s longest marriage to date was with Steve Callard, who she tied the knot to in 1989, before they divorced in 2001.
