The project took approximately four weeks to complete.

‘We really wanted to utilise the space as much as we could so this is why we opted for open concept bathroom. It has made our small bathroom look very spacious,’ the mother-of-three told Daily Mail Australia.

‘We did all the demolition and my husband did the waterproofing. Everything else [i.e. tiles, bathtub and rain shower head installations] needed to be done by a professional tradesman.

‘We ended up spending just under $10,000 which we are stoked about.’

Amanda said the biggest eyesore in her old bathroom was the carpet.

‘The biggest thing that stands out in our old bathroom was the carpet which to this day still horrifies me that people use carpet in wet areas,’ she said.

‘I would say the bathroom was a very 1960s looking bathroom mixed with creams, gold taps and a few maroon touches.’

Her favourite features include the luxurious fish scale tiles and an egg shape freestanding bathtub.

‘Our bath used to be quite small and low so I am very much enjoying having a spacious bath that I can sit and relax in,’ she said.

She styled her space using budget décor items – including a $39 stool from Spotlight and $39 faux plants from Target.

For those looking to renovate their bathrooms on a tight budget, Amanda said you should always do your research.

‘We would all love to have the best of the best but in most people’s cases that’s not possible. When you type in bathroom inspiration half the time these spaces are from big designer homes that have no budget,’ she explained.

‘Don’t get your heart set on what you see in the picture. By all means get some inspiration but just know that you may not be able to spend $2,000 on a tap mixer but you can still find a beautiful one for a fraction of the cost.

‘At the end of the day, I don’t think many people can tell the difference between a $200 tap mixer and a $2,000 one.

‘Less is more. When I am choosing colours, I choose items that will not date and that would appeal to most people. This will help if you are ever thinking about selling.’
