The Block finale WINS the ratings war with a whopping 1.8 million viewers – as it becomes the most-watched entertainment program of 2020

The Block grand finale has been named the most-watched entertainment program of 2020. 

A whopping 1.84 million metro tuned in on Sunday night as Queensland couple Jimmy and Tam Wilkins were crowned this season’s winners and awarded the $100,000 cash prize. 

The Channel Nine program also attracted a significant turnout in the regional market, scoring 590,000.

The program easily became Sunday night’s top-ranked show, despite it being the second-lowest finale in the series’ 16-year history.  

The Block finale’s strongest competitor was Channel Seven’s Beat The Chasers, but the program only managed to crack 583,000 metro viewers.  

The Block’s five couples took their houses to auction on Sunday night’s episode.

Jimmy and Tam were crowned the winners with a profit of $966,000, plus the $100,000 cash prize.

They were understandably ecstatic, with Tam remarking after the bidding: ‘Oh my goodness, can you believe that just happened?’

Tam and Jimmy chose to go second in the auction order, with a reserve price of $3,290,000.

Nice profit: South Australian couple Daniel and Jade (pictured) pocketed $460,000, with a bid of $3,800,000, over their reserve of $3,340,000

They received a bid of $4,256,000, resulting in a profit of $966,000.

Host Scott Cam announced that Tam and Jimmy had made ‘more money than anybody’s made on this show forever’. 

Sarah and George placed second with $650,002, while Harry and Tash came in third place, taking home $650,000.

Luke and Jasmin pocketed $506,000, and South Australian couple Daniel and Jade took home $460,000.
