Lucy Hale reacts to backlash over a Pretty Little Liars reboot: ‘I sincerely wish everyone the best and I hope it’s a huge success’

While some fans aren’t terribly thrilled that a Pretty Little Liars reboot is making its way to HBO Max, original PLL star Lucy Hale is fine with it.

The 31-year-old actress was promoting her partnership with UberEats and Starbucks when she spoke about the reboot with US Weekly.

‘I sincerely wish everyone the best and I hope it’s a huge success,’ Hale said in her interview.

‘Some people get angry about a reboot, but I think it’s important to be supportive of up-and-coming artists. I’m curious to see what they do with it!’ she added.

The reboot is set in the same existing PLL universe, though in a new town called Millwood, with a new set of ‘Liars’ miles away from the original setting of Rosewood.

Millwood is described as a ‘blue-collar town’ that was nearly ripped apart by a series of devastating events 20 years prior.

The show will center on a group of ‘disparate teen girls’ who are tormented by an unknown ‘Assailant’ who wants them to pay for the mistakes their parents made 20  years earlier.

The show, entitled Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, hails from executive producer/writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and co-executive producer/writer Lindsay Calhoon Bring(Chilling Adventures of Sabrina).

While Hale is looking forward to the reboot, others from the original series don’t share her enthusiasm.

I. Marlene King, who created the original show based on the novels by Sara Shepard, expressed her disappointment on Twitter.

When the project was announced in September, a fan posted on Twitter, ‘The bodies aren’t even cold yet,’ with King responding, ‘Literally. They are somewhere in the WB jungle.’

None of the other original cast members – Ashley Benson, Troian Bellisario, Shay Mitchell and Sasha Pietrese – have yet to comment publicly on the reboot.

The original series also spawned two short-lived spin-offs, Ravenswood and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, which both lasted just one season apiece.
