Travis Scott’s nonprofit Cactus Jack Foundation begins HBCU Scholarship named after his grandfather Waymon Webster

Travis Scott has launched a nonprofit named The Cactus Jack Foundation, and is kicking things off with a scholarship named after his grandfather, providing tuition for HBCU students dealing with money or pandemic-related problems.

‘My grandfather wanted me to take it all the way through college, I feel there is a power in education so to be able to give someone the opportunity to fulfill that dream as my papa thought for me is amazing,’ the Houston-based rapper, 29, said in a statement Wednesday of the Waymon Webster Scholarship.

According to TMZ, Scott will select the recipients based off of finances, and how hard they have been impacted in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The scholarship will be available towards students who are currently attending the following schools: Grambling State University; Howard University, Morehouse College, Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M University.

The rapper on Wednesday tweeted: ‘CACTUS JACK FOUNDATION SUPPORTING THE NEXT GENERATION OF CREATIVE KIDS.’

Scott, who shares two-year-old daughter Stormi with Kylie Jenner, 23, was a student at the University of Texas, but eventually left as his music career took off.

Scott – who’s also collaborated with companies such Fortnite, McDonald’s and Nike – has past used his massive platform to engage in philanthropic endeavors in his hometown of Houston, building on support towards schools, art and parks.

Scott’s Cactus Jack Foundation is also working on ‘an authentic fashion design program’ for high school students in a collaboration with The New School at Parsons School of the Design and My Brother’s Keeper, a nonprofit started by former President Barack Obama, Vogue reported Wednesday.

According to Houston NBC affiliate KPRC-TV, Scott is preparing to bring back his AstroWorld festival next year after the festival – which was slated to be held earlier this month – was canceled due to the pandemic.

He tweeted: ‘See you next year at AstroWorld Fest 2021…can’t wait to turn the (expletive) up! Stay Safe! HE PARTY NEVER ENDS.’
