Magda Szubanski recorded a heartfelt message for South Australians, after it was announced they’d be entering a six-day lockdown on Wednesday.

In a post on Instagram on Wednesday, the 59-year-old comedian said she was thinking of everyone in South Australia after having recently come out of Victoria’s lockdown. 

‘Just sending my most heartfelt sympathy to all our South Australian brothers and sisters,’ she began.

‘From those of us in Victoria who have just been through a lockdown, we do know how it feels, but, gee, I’m glad you’re getting in early, and I really hope that this knocks it out, and I’m wishing you all well, and please stay safe.’

She added: ‘So much love to all of you over there. Hope everything goes okay.’

The Kath & Kim star also extended her sympathies in the caption, and added a series of emojis, including a love heart and face mask emoji.

‘Take care South Australia!! Sending lots of love from Victoria. Hope this is over soon. Stay safe,’ she wrote.

It was announced on Wednesday that South Australia would enter a mandatory six-day lockdown after an outbreak of coronavirus cases. 

The lockdown will come into effect at midnight on Wednesday, and will see all schools, universities, restaurants, cafés, bars and pubs close.

Exercising outside of the home will be banned, and all people will be required to wear face masks while out in public.

‘We continue to face our biggest test to date. We are going hard and we are going early. Time is of the essence,’ South Australian Premier Steven Marshall said in a statement. 

He added that he was especially concerned given that the virus outbreak had proved to be ‘a particularly sneaky strain’ with an extremely short incubation period.
