Iggy Azalea reveals the deeply personal reason why she won’t let anybody call her by her real name Amethyst Kelly

Iggy Azalea is one of the most famous rappers in the world, but few people know her real name is actually Amethyst Amelia Kelly.

The 30-year-old addressed her legal name in a Twitter thread on Tuesday, explaining why she prefers to go be her nom de plume – even in her personal life.

She said that only a ‘select group of people’ are ‘allowed’ to call her Amethyst, with the rest referring to her simply as Iggy.

What’s in a name? On Wednesday, the 30-year-old got candid about her legal name and revealed the reason that she prefers to go by her stage moniker

The thread began when a fan asked her: ‘Do your friends usually call you Amethyst or Iggy?’

The Fancy star responded: ’99 per cent of the people in my life call me Iggy and I prefer that except for the 1 per cent that know me that well that it just hits different if they say my real name because it feels cosy.’

She later tweeted at another fan that the reason she doesn’t let people call her Amethyst is because she thinks names are ‘very personal’.

It comes after Iggy addressed rumours that she could be leaving music behind to start a new career as a YouTuber.

The Australian-raised star has recently faced questions from longtime fans over whether or not she plans to move into the YouTube space full-time.

‘Def gonna do it! But probably in 2021 since this year is cursed,’ she added.

Iggy has collaborated with some of the biggest stars on YouTube over the past year, including makeup mogul James Charles.
