Michael Strahan dreads the idea of his teen daughters dating and jokes he will ‘scare’ the boys away

Michael Strahan hopes his aggressive reputation on the football field during his 15-year career with the New York Giants will ‘scare’ away his teens’ prospective dates. 

While appearing on Tuesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the father-of-four admitted he wasn’t ‘too keen’ about his twins Isabella and Sophia, 16, dating. 

During his conversation with the Golden Globe-winning actress, 45, she admitted  the idea of her little girls Frankie, six and Olive, eight, growing up ‘terrifies’ her.

The Good Morning America co-anchor, 48, agreed with the talk show host, 45, and revealed he has a hilarious plan for ‘when the boys show up’ for his daughters. 

‘I’m going to have my shoulder pads on, I’m going to have my arms greased down, I’m going to have my helmet on and I’m going to have black stripes under my eyes,’ he joked. ‘And, I’m going to make sure I’m like, ‘Who you here to see?’ 

Barrymore laughed, before asking: ‘Michael will you please come to my house too? Because I would love to just be present and stand next to you.’

‘On demand, you let me know and I am there full uniform ready to scare them away,’ he assured the star, who shares her youngsters with ex-husband Will Kopelman.   

Strahan is also the father of his 28-year-old eldest daughter Tanita and Michael Strahan Jr., 25, from his marriage to Wanda Hutchins from 1992 to 1996. 

He co-parents his twins with ex-wife Jean Muggli, who each get their children for a week at a time.

The retired defensive end retired from the NFL in 2007 and broke record throughout his career, including the most sacks in a 16-game campaign in 2001.

The pair also discussed navigating egos in the sports world and appreciating what they’ve worked for in their careers. 

‘I will always have that little conscience on my shoulder…appreciate everything you have, work for everything you have, earn it, do not expect it,’ Barrymore said. 

Strahan said he learned that lesson from his father, who was in the military and agreed to pay half of a 1980 BMX Bike he wanted as a teenager.

‘I had to earn like $500 or $600. I cut all that grass, I did everything I could do to earn that money and I still have that bike to this day because the bike symbolizes to me that nothing is free,’ he said of bike, which he keeps in his man cave.  

He continued: ‘You have to earn everything in your life and that hard work leads to good things and that’s how you get the things you really want.’

The journalist called the possession the ‘most valuable’ in his home, not ‘in far as dollar terms but sentimentally.’
