Singer Jewel reveals how Beyonce supported her during infamous VH1 Divas Duets special

‘She watched me and just did what I did’: Jewel reveals Beyonce ‘was a sister’ and saved the nervous folk singer’s infamous VH1 Divas Duets performance from disaster

Jewel has revealed that her infamous performance on the 2003 VH1 Divas Duets special would have been a disaster if not for Beyonce.

The women shared the stage to perform the Creedence Clearwater Revival song Proud Mary – and the nervous folk singer struggled with the choreography.

The 46-year-old told Australia’s The Sunday Project: ‘I show up on stage very nervous and they are like, ‘Let’s go over choreography.’

‘I cannot. I don’t dance. I play guitar and I stand still and I can barely walk in high heels.’

While she said there was competitiveness between the stars on the show, Beyonce, 39, only wanted to help her – especially when Jewel forgot her moves on stage.

‘A lot of the girls on that show didn’t mind showing up another girl. She did not want to – she wanted me to rise. Like, she was rooting for me.

She added: 'I'm like, 'How nice is that?' Most girls would take that as an opportunity to be like, 'I'm looking amazing over here.'' She was a sister, and taking good care of me'
