Benny the Butcher was shot in the leg in southwest Houston in an attempted robbery outside of a Walmart.

Authorities in Houston told ABC13 Saturday that the Buffalo, New York native, 35, was with a few friends in the parking lot of the retail location located off of S. Rice Avenue.

A vehicle containing five passengers pulled up besides Benny the Butcher and two friends and brandished guns, telling them to hand over chains and necklaces they were wearing, TMZ reported.

One of the armed robbers shot the rap artist, whose real name is Jeremie Damon Pennick, as he was running away, ABC13 reported.

Benny the Butcher’s friends subsequently contacted the authorities and took the musical artist to a nearby hospital, the outlet reported.

The rapper, who has a deal with Roc Nation, is expected to survive the shooting, police told ABC13.

Police are investigating the shooting, adding that the suspects were driving Chevy Malibu.

The shooting was the third involving a musical artist in four days in Texas.

Boosie Badazz, whose real name is Torrence Hatch Jr., suffered a gunshot to the leg outside of a Dallas mall on Saturday, police said. He is expected to survive.

Boosie, 38, was in town to pay respects to late rapper Mo3, who was fatally shot at 28 Wednesday on Interstate 35.
