Rapper Snoop Dogg ignites a FIERCE debate among Australians over sausage sizzles

He is an avid foodie and even has his own cookbook, From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg’s Kitchen.

But American rapper Snoop Dogg turned to his Australian fanbase for some much-needed advice as he settled in to watch the State Of Origin match on Wednesday evening.

The 49-year-old tweeted: ‘Gettin me some sausage sizzle in the hizzle. Tomato or BBQ sauce? What do you Aussies do?’ 

Immediately, Australians found themselves locked in a fierce debate as they told Snoop what sauce they preferred atop the local dish.

Many sang the praises of tomato sauce, with one claiming it tasted delicious when paired with caramelised onions.

Others claimed that tomato sauce was ‘how they did it Down Under’.  

Meanwhile, others put in a good argument for barbecue sauce, with one person suggesting that a ‘smokey’ version would be the clear winner.

A sausage sizzle originated in Australia and consists of a grilled or barbecued sausage which is served on a piece of bread along with a generous helping of onion.

Snoop has made waves in the culinary industry, and even TV broadcaster Karl Stefanovic revealed he owned his popular cookbook.

Karl, 46, couldn’t contain his excitement as he also enjoyed a brief and awkward rapping duet with Snoop in an episode of the Today show earlier this month.  

Snoop burst out into an impromptu rap during the interview, singing: ‘I come from a land Down Under’.

Keen to join his idol in the opportunity of a lifetime, Karl began awkwardly singing: ‘You better run, you better take cover’.
